Amy Brownhill

I have been interested in midwifery for as long as I can remember. When I was a child people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I would always say “A Midwife,” and then I would have to explain what a midwife was. I am pleased to say I no longer have to explain it as frequently and instead find myself working in a wonderfully busy midwifery practice that is well integrated into BC’s health care system.

I studied midwifery in New Zealand. I received a Bachelor of Midwifery in 2002 in Christchurch and practiced outside of Wellington for two years prior to returning home to Vancouver Island. I have been with Cook Street Midwives since 2007. It is such a wonderful place to practice; I am so fortunate to be working with the midwives here and all the families who come to our office. Though I love attending births and will never tire of the miracle of it all, my absolute favourite part of being a midwife is simply in supporting people while they become parents.

I live in the Gorge/Tillicum neighbourhood with my partner and our two daughters.
